The Product

These scarves are all made of the finest 100% habotai, silk charmeuse, silk satin, crepe de chine, and stone-washed crepe de chine and have beautiful  hand-rolled hems.  They range in size from 8 x 54 inches to 22 x 90 inches.  Please refer to the Order Information page for a complete listing of sizes and pricing.

The Process

All the scarves are hand painted with non-toxic fabric paint and dyes.  Some have one or two colors and incorporate salt and sugar to create texture which allows for spontaneous movement of the dyes. This creates interesting designs and subtle blending of colors. Other scarves use up to ten layers of color, creating a deeper and richer texture.  Each scarf develops on its own, depending on the wetness of the silk and strength and color of the pigment. 

Each color application is either given time to dry completely before the next color is applied or it is left to set for a short time before the next color is applied and mixes softly with the prior colors. Each piece can take from one to four hours for the application of color. The drying cannot be rushed as many exciting designs and colors can manifest during this part of the process. When completely dry, more colors may be added and the process begins anew. Otherwise the scarves are washed to remove all excess colorant and  then color-set and pressed. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation and truly unique.
